Hi, I'm Sasha. I also answer to Alex, and Alexander when paperwork insists. I was born in Cherkasy, grew up in Vancouver, went to university in Montreal, and now live in New York City.
I make photographs, write, and build tools. Mostly about how images get made, what they do to the people looking at them, and what technology changes about that relationship.
Most of the work sits at the edge of two things: I shoot with film and digital cameras, process and edit seriously, and also write software, design interfaces, and build camera systems from scratch. Those aren’t separate practices. The technical work comes out of the photographic questions, and vice versa.
If you’re new here, the photos and series are the core of it. The writing runs alongside. The technical work shows the tools and systems built in service of the images.
