Flower Petal Under the Microscope

I made this to find space-like scenes in the fine details of nature.

This is a flower petal, picked from the High Line in NYC, frozen between two microscope slides, and then placed on top of a slide without cover glass. To create the effect of stars, a light is shined through a circular polarizer under the microscope’s condenser, with the sample in between and then another circular polarizer in front of the camera sensor.

The objective is placed in front of a thin section of the petal with the frozen moisture scattering light to create the effect of stars.
